IACONIS HAS THE GOLDEN BOOT

Damian Iaconis is Kingston City FC’s latest goal scoring attraction. The 18 year old attacking midfielder/winger is only in his first season with the club, however has already cemented his spot in the starting 11 of the seniors.

Previously representing South Springvale, Ianconis explained his reason for the move to Kingston.

“It was important for me to want to make that step into a higher division, to develop as a player, as well as playing with better quality players and versing strong opposition.”

How have you found the transition to the NPL?

“It is a lot more fast paced compared to the state leagues. I have had to kind of change my game in a way to adapt to the pace and style of the game… Although I do feel like I fit in a bit better playing alongside and against players that are a similar age to me.”

Describe your style of play.

“High intensity, fast paced and attacking minded.” (He got straight to the point)

What is your secret to goal scoring? (laughs)

“I can’t really talk yet, I don’t think I’ve proven myself just yet as a goal scorer. But I think it’s been being in the right place at the right time, making positive runs and getting yourself into dangerous positions. Its also all about having the right players around you to find you in goal scoring opportunities.

What are your personal goals for the season?

“Well my personal goal is to help the team get promoted or get them up as a high as possible on the table and of course doing well in the FFA CUP. But on a more personal level, I want to consistently play well and give something back to my team and coaching staff for the faith they have put in me and my ability.”
